New Delhi . April 20 , 2024 . The Har Ghar Jal Yojna with an aim to provide
tapped drinking water facility to every household in every panchayat of India has
been failed to achieve its target . The scheme was announced in 2019 Ministry of
Jal shakti of the Government of India under the Jal Jeevan Mission for providing
55 litres of tap water to every rural household per capita per day regularly on a
long term basis by 2024 . However a survey conducted by a national level NGO
called Water Drop reveals that the above scheme has not been able achieve its
full target . According to the survey , panchayats in most of the blocks in the
State of Odisha, Chhatishgarh , Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh are yet to see the
fruition of the scheme . It is reported that some of the projects under the scheme
are in preparatory stage and in some panchayats though the scheme has been
fully implemented , but there are leakages in the underground pipes that were
laid for purpose of providing water .
In contrast, when the members of the NGO contacted the concerned
government officials, they have a different story to tell. According to the Officials
, the agencies under the scheme are facing difficulties in laying down
underground pipes in the Panchayats which are in the hilly areas in some of the
districts of the above states , for example in the state of Odisha , the hill districts
of Malkanigiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Nabarangpur are posing such hurdles .
They ( the officials ) say “other wise 70 percent of the areas of the above states
have already seen the successful implementation of the scheme and the rest of
the areas will covered by the end of this year .
However be that as it may , the common rural people are facing water
shortage especially in the month of summer for incompletion of the scheme .
