Two persons killed and 4 severely injured in hit and run incident in the state capital

Bhubaneswar : April 25 , 2025. Two persons were allegedly killed and four
got severely injured by a speeding car at the Rajmahal square of Bhubaneswar
late on 18 th May 2025 night . As reported by the onlookers the cars is said to be an
SUV . the two person killed were returning from a local private health care facility
after doing their shift duty . According witnesses , the SUV hit the victims and
dragged one of them for about 200 meters and the other flew away after getting
hit and collided with the pillar of a street light . The two deceased are assumed to
be in their early twenties. The other persons who were severely injured are fruit
vendors who were wrapping up their businesses while the SUV over shot the main
road and hit the fruit vendors’ trolley . Before hitting the fruit vendors the SUV
rammed over the two victims killing them on the spot. The injured persons were
admitted into the capital hospital of bhubanrsewar .
In recent years the number of privately own vehicles especially SUVs have
increased phenomenally that is 4 fold over last 4 years . According to NCRB (
Natinal crime Records Bureau ) Odisha is one of the top ten states where death
caused by road accidents are consistently on the rise. The heart wrenching fact is
that despite good Samaritan law of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways ,
people don’t come to the rescue of road accident victims and merely remain as
onlookers when an accident takes place .
In recent years the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has taken
various preventive measures to curb road accidents like installing high resolution
cameras along the highways , speed monitor devices and real times cameras to
take photos of the over speeding vehicles , helmet less riders and rash drivers and
riders .
