Bhubaneswar : June 5 , 2024 . In a first in the last 25 years the Bharatiya
Janata Party ( BJP ) has achieved the magic number in the general elections –
2025 to the Odisha Legislative assembly by winning in 78 constituencies out 147 .
For the last 25 years the eastern state of India had been ruled by Biju Janata Dal(
BJD) led by Naveen Pattnaik . In the last three general elections the BJD had been
winning over in 100 constituencies leaving a few for other parties . In the previous
Odisha Assembly election in 2019, the BJD won 112 seats , the BJP won 23 seats
and INC ( the congress ) won 9 seats thus making the party secure a fifth
consecutive term . For two terms i.e 2000-2004 and 2004-2009 the BJD had
alliance with BJP and the duo ruled the state for almost two decades . Just before
the 2009 general elections , the alliance broke apart and BJP was pushed to the
door there after . But this time proving all political analysts wrong the BJP got
huge leap of 78 seats trouncing the BJD which also failed to win a single seat in
the Lok Sabha elections . Most of the stalwarts of the BJD has been defeated and
shown the door thus leaving their once used to be bastions to some of the naïve
candidates of the BJP . The congress party ( Indian National Congress ) won in 14
constituencies in the assembly elections – 2024 and it failed to secure a single
seat in any of Parliamentary constituencies in the general election 2024 . The BJP
owes this mandate to the people of Odisha and it is quite optimistic to fulfill the
promises it had made in its election manifesto .
